Religion and Worldviews
Through Religion and Worldviews, we aim to provide opportunities for our pupils to lay the foundation blocks of knowledge, which will allow them to understand and appreciate, in more detail, the culturally diverse world in which they are growing up. Their developing knowledge and understanding of a variety of faith and non-faith based belief systems, built upon each year through ‘Believing, Expressing and Living’ themes, will ensure our pupils are respectful and tolerant of worldviews, which may differ from their own. We aim to help children understand that questions in Religion and Worldviews can be contentious, and that deeper questions are seldom answered simply by facts.
At Peatmoor we aim to develop a classroom where inquiry is the norm – children are encouraged to look for alternative possibilities and to be open-minded and flexible in their thinking. This subject will allow children to engage in systematic enquiry into significant human questions, which religion and worldviews address. This will enable our children to develop the understanding and skills needed to appreciate and appraise varied responses to these questions, as well as develop responses of their own.
We aim to teach children to think for themselves, becoming reflective learners, where they are able to draw their own conclusions to the ‘Big Questions’ presented through the worldviews they study.
