Forest school at Viking
We were very fortunate to be in the position to reinstate our forest school in 2021 after having some amazing volunteers help clear the land over the summer holidays. In addition to having the space ready, we also secured a wonderful forest school leader. Bryony will be joining us every Monday to lead our forest school. Each class will have a half term experience.
When the sessions take place, half the class will be in forest school in the morning and the other half will be in the afternoon. The children will have focused English and Maths lessons with their teacher when they are not in forest school. During forest school, the children will be given a small snack so please ensure that the school are aware of any dietary allergies.
The forest school sessions will take place weekly regardless of the weather. Therefore, on a Wednesday, when it is your child's turn, they will be asked to come to school dressed ready for forest school. This means they will not be in school uniform but they will be wearing layers of warm clothing that you are happy to potentially get muddy/ dirty.
They must have long sleeves and long trousers (regardless of the weather) to cover their arms and legs to protect them from nettles, bramble scratches, ticks and insect bites. The children need to be warm, comfortable and able to easily move about to be able to learn during forest school.
The children need to be wearing trainers and bring a waterproof coat and wellies with them. If you don’t have wellies then please ensure they have a pair of shoes that can get muddy and a clean pair of shoes to wear inside. We have purchased some wet weather clothes for the children to use if you don't have any at home.
Thank you for your support and I am hope you agree this will be a fantastic opportunity for your child.
