Plas Pencelli 2024

Monday 30th September

Y6 have arrived safely at Pencelli after a good journey. They are all in good heart and it is not raining - bed making was the first activity! A further update will be put on the website later.

We had a great journey to Wales and all the children were excited and in high spirits. Once we arrived, the first task was to make the beds (most of the children found this extremely tricky so Miss Kidd, Mrs Pascall and Mrs Young made most of them).

We then had lunch before heading out on our first activity which was an adventure walk around the grounds of Pencelli. We got very muddy and extremely wet which the children loved! We had to use a waterfall to clean ourselves down because we were so muddy!!

We then enjoyed a dinner of pizza, potato wedges, salad and pancakes with ice cream and sauce for pudding - which was delicious. Our evening activity was orienteering. They found this challenging but got better as the evening went on and as they got more confident. The drying room is full already after getting so wet on our adventure walk!!

We are tired now and in need of a good sleep ready for our activities tomorrow - both groups are going caving.

Tuesday 1st October

Everyone slept well last night and after a good breakfast were ready for the day. We have had a brilliant day caving today. So many of the children were nervous about this to start with but did themselves proud and had a fantastic time in the caves and squeezing through tight gaps. Bats were also seen in the caves. They all came back very wet! Dinner tonight went down very well as everyone was hungry! Pasta and meatballs with arctic roll for pudding! Just perfect to fill everyone up for the evening's entertainment which was the Dingle Descent.

Again, the children did themselves proud and worked so well as teams throughout the whole descent. The recent rains had meant that the dingle was very full and there were definitely some deep sections to walk through. Everyone did this challenge with good humour and a real sense of determination. Mrs Matthews and Mrs McDonald visited this evening. They arrived at 5.30pm and left having also conquered the Dingle Descent! A really fun evening which ended with everyone wet again so showers before bed all round! There will be some very good sleeping this evening!

Wednesday 2nd October

We have had another brilliant day after a really good night's sleep. Both groups went rock climbing. We did a bit of bouldering at the beginning of the day then climbing and abseiling. Some children overcame their fears after a tentative start and others surprised us with their skill. It was windy and quite cold in the quarry but it didn’t dampen any of our spirits, until the end of the day when the rain came in. After getting back and drying off, dinner was very popular tonight - chicken goujons , chips and peas and then profiteroles for pudding.

Tonight we did the scavenger hunt which was very popular and we had lots of giggles and fun. Some children even managed to get to level 3. There has been a lot of room tidying this evening and sorting out of clothes from the drying room - a huge thank you to Miss Kidd, Mrs Pascall and Mrs Young for overseeing all of this! We are now hoping to sleep well and looking forward to a sunny day on the canal canoeing tomorrow.

Thursday 3rd October

Today has been another great day. After another good night's sleep, everyone woke up raring to go. All of us canoed on the canal - the sun was shining and it was very warm. Not many canal boats to deal with so that was good. Both groups did really well and again worked together as teams. Most loved jumping in the canal at the end but there were screams of delight and shock as the water was so cold. Another exciting thing was that we got visited by a cat and a hedgehog!

Tonight after packing we visited the tuck shop. We are hoping to sleep well and are looking forward to gorge walking tomorrow. It will be an early start as we have some more packing to do, ready for breakfast and then the morning activity. What a brilliant week it has been! Looking forward to seeing everyone when we arrive back at Peatmoor on Friday afternoon - there will be a text to let parents and carers know the time we are expected back. Another year at Pencelli, which has been amazing, and big thank yous to the centre and to Miss Kidd, Mrs Pascall and Mrs Young.
